The Uzi wasn't really special. They're simple blowback subguns. They stood out at the time because their stamped construction was reasonably durable and comfortable, at least in comparison to previous stamped subguns. They have a reputation for reliability, but so do the vast majority of blowback subguns out there. They're famous because they're jewish and appeared in movies a fuckin' lot.
When it comes to that era: I'm partial to MACs and their zany history. Slap on a Lage MFG upper and you have a great gun.
