Don't change the filters based on a timer, use the total dissolved solids (TDS) tester that comes with the unit. If it doesn't come with one, buy one, they're like $20.

Check the tap water, mine is around 180 TDS before filtering, and around 10 TDS after filtering. With 5 people in the house you won't have to change them but every few years. Make sure to check for leaks the first day or so after you install it.

You can also save on the carbon filters by moving the post-RO carbon filter to the pre-filter position, and putting a new one in the post-RO position.
