This is more an issue of behavior. I don't care what color you are if you act like an insulting ass.
In general conversation, if someone is talking, supposedly from a place of "education", and as the listener you're insulted for asking a question, you're a shitty person.
Change the attitude and actually try to converse with people, he may not be immediately chastised like he is.
