As a big true crime fan, I generally like stories with a lot of twists and intrigue. But one story has captured my attention in the worst way this past year, and I wanted to share it with you Goats because I think it's emblematic of our current society. And also because I've found it's led to me sinking into something of an existential depression (not in a bad way either).

I will try to do the TLDR of this case. But what makes it different is that it's a very very slow burn, and the end result is one's complete demoralization. More than any other case I've ever read, many of which can be boiled down to a procedural whodunnit, this case is best understood through its hours of interrogation footage. The crime: Madeline Soto was the only daughter of Jenn Soto, a single mom with a n'er do well boyfriend named Stephan Sterns (pronounced 'Stefawn' annoyingly). Neither worked, both were on disability for the usual crop of imagined ailments. Jenn was a bisexual pill abusing spic who constantly talks about her meds; Madeline was 13, failing out of school. Stephan collects tamagotchi pets and trading cards and is an enormous, smelly and useless pervert who is also addicted to pills. Stephan drops her off at school one day, Jenn goes to pick her up but turns out Madeline never arrived. After all, we discover Stephan killed her and dumped her body , had been abusing her horribly her since she was at least 8 according to thousands of pics and videos on his phone. Jenn is showed these pics, and even after that time still believes Stephan is a "good guy" and is oblivious to his disgusting abuse (most likely, she was complicit).

What is different about this case is the players. The shitskin mom is ultra liberal and neglected her daughter to constantly focus on her own "mental health" and other conditions. The boyfriend is a complete pedophile who supplied lazy mommy with pills and stole from his own parents. The girl lived her entire life in hell because of their disgusting, agonizing graft, sloth and degeneracy.

I think these two truly embody the utter horror I see in the world today. It's not a sharp violent horror, but a very slow descent into utter blindness and nothingness. These two represent the ultimate destination of debauchery and naked self interest, disguised as "self care" or self pity. Hearing these people describe their barely functional lives is astonishing to me, and has been rather conversely motivating. I want to find myself as far on the other end of the spectrum from these kinds of people. Knowing they exist and proliferate around me is a reminder that no matter how I may feel I am doing at any time, simply by facing harsh reality and protecting my children, I am opposing myself to this kind of behavior. This case has made me wonder how persistent this kind of harmful laziness has truly become.
