But there’s lots of corruption, sexual or otherwise, in the clergy of every religion. How is this linked to Catholic doctrine? It isn’t.
As for the families, they're the ones supplying the kids to the priests and local church leaders.
You pay property taxes to a school system that indoctrinates children to be trannies. I can cite other of your behaviors that have propped up corrupt institutions. Its arbitrary to declare Catholics responsible for the pedophilia of a minority of priests and declare the entire religion to be unsound doctrinally because of it.
IMO, it's the knowledge that their church doctrine is false that prompts the exploitation.
Well IMO, all sectarian churches are doctrinally false because they promote belief in Yahweh and other supernatural phenomena, which does provide an opportunity for exploitation. “You will live forever on a cloud if you follow us!” Not sure why Catholicism is particularly problematic or soft on sodomy though.
Many of these arguments are what I call Swiftian (big endian/ little endian type debates). Who fucking cares what baptism means? I do think the faith and works vs faith alone debate could have practical implications but I’m not on the side of faith alone, which has been used as support for antinomianism. “Faith alone” is a shameless ploy for recruiting loyal followers over the importance of the behavior of those followers.
I think the lack of emphasis on reading the OT by the RC is perhaps lucky, as there’s not much moral example to be had there. I have a problem with teaching our people to follow the moral codes of iron age middle eastern polygamists.
I like some concepts like predestination in some protestant groups becauase they are adjacent to eugenics. Other stuff like married clergymen are very dysgenic.
I don’t have any qualms about catholics following RC dogma which has no scriptural support in the OT or NT, because factually, it’s all equally fake and gay to me. Some RC dogma may in fact be preferable from a practical standpoint (e.g., no married priests, no polygamy)
Of course, all true believers think their religion is the “real” religion. Such doctrinal differences fuelled centuries of brother-wars which only benefitted european elites. They were not the true motives behind those wars, just convenient justifications used to sell those wars to the masses.
There are lots of conservative Catholics who argue that problems within RC like clerical pedophilia and softness on homosexuality are due to a laxity toward RC doctrine. I don’t really see RC doctrine as the cause of it. I see similar controversies in every sect.
Christianity is belief in a historical person Jesus as the son of a creator god and a divinity himself. Rejection of “faith alone” doctrine or something like that seems like a ridiculous disqualifier for Christianity. Its like when Foo claims Christianity is really Judaism. Of course they aren’t the same. They differ on a fundamental belief. He really says it just to start fights and insult people. More brother wars. Catholics follow Christ and believe in his divinity just like all other Christians. In fact nearly all Christians were Catholics for a very long time. You think Christianity didn’t exist until the Reformation? Call me skeptical.
