Of course, they find a way to prove us wrong on this matter.
The thought process is that they aren't compromising their values by their association - a rather childish assertion in my opinion but okay.
It delves into the realm of technicality and semantics where they feel like having the moral upper ground in valuing aforementioned association by remaining "loyal"

The difference was (and I now understand) the difference between living and breathing every moment in a pure devotion and carving a singular identity - and leading a double life..
(Well OF COURSE I would never compromise my values and sell myself out) - meanwhile the individual concerned Is torn between perhaps their good intentions and core values and the image they must project for their outgoing lifestyles. (Automatically compromising their values)
This is what is meant by complete system dropout, a hard pill for some to swallow.

Either one: The individuals in question have been instilled under degenerate sub-culture by their upbringing
Or two: they were gradually degraded by the latter.
