I get a lot of shit from friends for liking the Terrifier movies, but as a horror nut, I think they're great. Nihilistic? Sure. But I think they should be understood as satire. Every trend has a lifetime. The end of that lifetime is signaled by completely self-conscious satirizing of the original premise. The Terrifier movies are that for the slasher concept. You know this because the series didn't even begin by taking itself seriously; it starts right out as absurd satire. They very purposefully take all of the tropes and turn them up to 11. You're supposed to be watching horror turned comedy, and you can appreciate them once you view them that way.
