The word, or term, "ostracized" originates from the era of antiquity before ass wipe, ear plugs and note pads when memos, thoughts and defamatory condemnations, were scribed onto clay shards.
A major necessity back then, even today, was a means of storing liquid commodities. Sheep stomachs just weren't cutting it anymore, besides, they were susceptible to sabotage ie sliced open or punctured. 6th Century BCE, someone in Thracia spins up some clay and ends up with a hollow female figure that actually had a practical purpose, it could be filled with liquid, fruits, olive, grain wine, and never bulge out and become useless. The OSTRACON was now a thing.
Every so often these female clay caricatures experienced a rough go. Much of the cargo aboard boats were stored in Ostracons and in rough seas they took a beating, and if being thrown onto the rocks they were pounded. And many were just shattered into shards and discarded.
The broken shards of the OSTRACON were perfect for scribing a message...usually a message informing someone that somebody is a piece of shit and faggy goof etc. This goof was being "OSTRACIZED".
A shard of clay from a hollow female figure had the potential to ruin a man's life.
Most importantly, above all else, this post did more to advance the stagnant thought process and elevate IQ levels here than I had originally intended. I was going to get into the topic of the inaccuracies of carbon dating and the more accurate procedure of Uranium-Thorium /Helium Thermochronology...it's a radiometric dating process with completely conflicting results than that of carbon dating and it's "trace lengths". But I didn't go there. I stuck with something that you faggots really need to know.
OK, time's up...I was curious to see if anyone would pick up on the female inference related to the ostra, more specifically the damaging physical forces of nature that ruined so many of them. Anyway, I purposely formulated this post with a double entendre with the expectation that it would be received in a manner that twitched an eyebrow but with delayed comprehension of the pun termed in the female inferences...yeah, especially the punishing course of day to day life. Or maybe it just wasn't worth noting, I don't fucking know I'm not a clairvoyant...but I did bang a dame for a weekend at a Holiday Inn Express one time who's name was Clair.
