I took a civil service test for the City of Clearwater Florida shortly after getting out of the military in 1986. There were about 50-60 people in the room.

It was 90% math. They allowed 3 hours for the test. I finished in about an hour and 15 minutes. I thought that I must have skipped a page or two and went back through the entire test. Nope. Nailed it. I was the first person done. Hour and a half.

About a week later I got my score in the mail. With 5 veterans point I had scored 103! I was very happy thinking that I would hear from the city soon.

Two weeks go by and I havent heard a thing. I call the city office in charge of hiring to inquire as to when I could start? I knew damn well that no one had scored higher than me.

The guy that answered the phone shouted " DONT CALL US! WE'LL CALL YOU!".
Of course I never heard from them. I wonder who got the job?
