The breakdown in communication is that the jews expected a warrior king that would go to war for their faith! But, That wasn't Gods' Plan, Instead of sending a "messiah" to rectify Earthly affairs, God sent a Messiah, that righted the wrong that was done in the Garden of Eden whence Eve tricked Adam into partaking in that which God forbid!
Jesus IS the Messiah in that, He, in dying for our Sins, opened the Gates of Heaven up to Humanity. But that's NOT what the jews wanted, and so they rejected Jesus. Before the Sacrifice that Jesus made on the Cross, every human soul that died went to a "waiting room" within Hell, after the Resurrection, Jesus went down to Hell, and took the Holly Souls out of Hell, and brought them to Heaven.
