Death from Dopamine

submitted by Trope to QuitDrinking 4 monthsDec 8, 2024 16:57:14 ago (+3/-0)     (QuitDrinking)

In the event of opioid overdose, dopamine floods the Pons region of the brain preventing it from functioning which can cause breathing to stop.

It's an interesting thought knowing that dopamine is the chemical of want, longing, and desire. It is not the chemical of peace, happiness, and tranquility, but rather the chemical of always seeking more. It makes us feel unstoppable and powerful - in the context of behavior aimed at moving forward advancing toward a goal. (IE not happy now but will work towards future happiness)

And to think, that up until the very last breath of overdose, you'd be flooded with a neurotransmitter pleading with your soul to keep going deeper and seeking further. If there is anything at the end of the rainbow, you'll need to first pass through death to find it.

Not an opiate, but a barbiturate.
