If aliens ever turned out to be real there would be a good chance they were originally from Earth. It's not too different than the situation here. Woah, you can live outside of water? Woah, you can live beyond the atmosphere?
I have this theory that the odds or frequency of live existing beyond Earth are so low that there would be a higher probability of an early hyper intelligent branch of man developed a space program pre-history and has been living out there already. We'll probably bump into them long before we bump into any aliens that developed separately. I don't think it is likely. Just more likely.
