Use a squirt-gun with water to correct behavior instead of slapping, or just yelling.

Be calm and try to just be near it. The instant it hisses squirt it with water 1 time. Wait for it to calm down, and then praise it for good behavior.

Rinse, and Repeat. It works better than you would think.
