there are regulations governing which polymers can be used in chewing gum, some of the “food-grade polymers” are synthetic, that is, plastic. This is why most discarded chewing gum doesn’t biodegrade! Do you really want to chew plastic that’s currently thought to be safe enough, or to chew something that might or might not be plastic? You decide.
