there is evidence all over the place for a lot of things in language, and it really exposes americans' ignorance about their own history - even recent history. I see people acting as if they weren't born or something, they just popped into existence - they don't know their own ethnicity or the history of the town they were born in or how the culture where they live and how it came to be. there are brits and scots that think america join ww2 to "save the jews", too - this was never taught anywhere, but I knew this would eventually slither its way into the public consciousness.
