You can typically get a liberal or conservative to admit family should come first. But you can’t get them to say why the government shouldn’t be structured and run on that same principle. Because they can’t walk their way through the outward concentric circles of personal responsibility and priority, and not include their entire race, before listing non relations, without betraying their own logic of “family first” for something entirely subjective to convenience.

Even if they claim the outer most layer of the societal onion doesn’t end at race, but rather the whole planet because “we’re all human” (debatable). As soon as they prioritize their own kid over a stranger they admit the highest degree of genetic connection is ground zero. And they can’t get to everyone else scientifically in a non contradictory linear order without admitting race comes before anyone outside of it. And just like your household is ruled by the highest authority making up the genetically connected within that house, no state authority should be made up of, or rule over anyone not genetically OF those people. Everything else like immigration takes care of itself this way.

So if you can convince them to admit the best chance their family had was being the #1 priority of all their fathers resources, then it shouldn’t be to hard to get them to see that socialism not only works, but it’s actually the only system that does work as soon as there’s enough people to force interaction with each other.
