Furious Dutch farmers brought cows to The Hague and threatened to slaughter the animals on Tuesday in protest of the Netherlands' $26 billion climate plan that could reduce the livestock population by 30%.

The Netherlands, one of Europe's top greenhouse gas emitters, is planning on halving its nitrogen output by 2030, Bloomberg reported. The government plan would shutter some farms, as much of the nitrogen is blamed on manure and fertilizer from cattle.

Agenda 2030 in action.

If I understand this, CO2 is poison and now N is bad, and I'm guessing if all goes to plan P and K are next.

The argument that ammonia produced from animal waste is dangerous to the environment is fucking ridiculous if you've ever owned a fish tank. Ammonia is only a problem if it is in a barren and contained environment. Think little glass fish bowl with nothing but a goldfish. If you're not changing out the water frequently, that goldfish is dead.

But, you add in some media for denitrifying bacteria to grow and it breaks down that ammonia into nitrites then nitrates. That bacteria is ever present, making up around 15% of all on earth. If a cow pisses on the ground or in water, that bacteria converts it to something basically harmless.

It's how your septic systems work, or water purifcation plants for that matter. This is a big lie for a bad outcome. It's literally bullshit vs bullshit.

EDIT: No, you can't just drop a few rocks, gravel or sand into a little fish bowl and expect everything to take care of itself. But, given a large enough water volume, then yes. Big tanks are easier to take care of than little ones. The pond at the park has fish in it without anyone having to change the water.
