For many transplants, they get pressured/indoctrinated through movies and other media that Manhattan is the only place they should live and that if you don’t live in Manhattan or at least one of 6 or 7 neighborhoods in Brooklyn that you’re some sort of uncouth lame or failure. The desirability hierarchy is generally: 1. Manhattan. 2. Brooklyn 3. Queens 4. Bronx/Staten Island.
If you live anywhere in NJ (sometimes even Hoboken which is very nice and only 10 minutes from Manhattan), you’re derided as part of the “bridge and tunnel” crowd which is almost akin to being called a Nigger.
