If you haven't noticed most of TD's front page posts are previous mod stickies. Meaning the site is basically curated. If you've ever tried to post there, on average it never gets more than 10-20 upvotes. If it really is an award winning post, it gets 200 and gets to the top of "rising".
Natural organic posts rarely rise to the front page of TD within being stickied.
