STEAM BUYERS BEWARE Why I pirate - Steam is now a sneaky bait and switch bastard

submitted by mongre to gaming 3.4 yearsNov 28, 2021 10:46:17 ago (+11/-1)     (gaming)

I used to pirate EVERYTHING. Got tired of paying $50 for games that sucked. Free is better than paying, especially when you realize it's a terrible game, get screwed on the amount of gameplay, find microgrind transactions, etc.

Along comes Steam. They not only gave us all a central place for games but their sales made many titles reasonable. It's easy to open steam and click the game you want to play.

Fast forward several years and now they control the market. Now they don't have to treat us nicely because...well...they OWN the market.

Being the old man I am I don't want to track down titles on torrent, scrub through them to see if they're malware...I'll just wait till titles I like come around for a reasonable price...like the autumn sale going on now.

NOW....I spent a good part of yesterday compiling my titles in my cart. Wife planned on getting me the gift of everything in my cart...total about $90.

Woke up this morning with my cart ready to go. Prices all the same but when she went to check out I happened to notice THEY JACKED THE PRICE UP 10%. Not IN THE CART, MIND YOU! I went back to see if my cart reflected the new prices and NOPE...all titles still there at the original sale price. Checkout again...STEAM IS JACKING PRICES AT CHECKOUT!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BAIT AND SWITCH SHIT!!!

BUYER BEWARE.

THESE SNEAKY FUCKERS ARE ATTEMPTING TO JEW YOU HOPING YOU DON'T NOTICE BEFORE YOU CLICK "CHECKOUT"

Well wouldn't you know it? Every one of the titles I was about to buy are available on torrent. Later fuckers.

I still "enjoy" games from time to time, anymore though, it's like every 3 months. I'll sit in the start menu for an hour, get bored and will go work in my shop or something of the sort. I suppose I'd rather grind irl now.
