The only significant force on the building was gravity. Therefore the only way they could have fallen was straight down. You may have seen pictures of smaller reenforced concrete buildings having fallen intact on their sides, but those are completely different from a 110 story building that's outer load bearing skin was only a few tens of millimeters thick.
