That's how I've done everything as well, thankfully sans the snow part of it... But this job is SO finicky and requires SO many jacks and things - fuck it, it's worth paying the guy with the right tools to get it done properly without breaking things and cussing as much as I probably would for that particular job. I know the shop the previous owner took it to, so I'll try them first I guess. This'll be my first time there, as I've done all the other work on it. They're kind of fun to work on, those Germans engineered them well still back then. I guess they still do sometimes, but not always...
