Ben & Jerry’s has Jewish owners, so explain why they would boycott Israel randomly out of nowhere as soon as the Pegasus spyware story dropped? This whole ice cream story smells like a counter narrative PSYOP to hijack the news cycle from the fact that Israel had spyware on the phones of Americans, dissidents, and journalists among others.

I think a simpler explanation is that B&Js have a lot of far-left staff and they were agitating to boycott, since the left is splitting over BDS. As a compromise the management decided to rebrand the Israeli operation and give the pro-BDS faction a "victory" by letting them virtue signal on the US site.

They hire SJWs. One consequence of hiring SJWs is that they bring their politics to work and are quite demanding about it. Even if the management are jewish and pro-israeli they may have been facing a mini rebellion in other departments. So they had a chat, decided the easiest thing to do would be to quietly rebrand in Israel and let the marketing department vent by writing whatever they want to believe on the official website (hence the "occupied palestine" language).

Rebellion averted, profits protected, virtue signalled and everyone's happy.
