Any Buckethead fans here?

submitted by Splooge to whatever 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 04:39:58 ago (+22/-1)     (whatever)*

I went to one of his live shows years ago, and thinking back on it, it was possibly the most wholesome-yet-badass exhibitions I've ever been to.

The guy's incredibly skilled and his fanbase, I've come to realize, isn't anywhere near as insufferable as that of other "artists" (if at all).

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=Pas-cMsWIgM

For 90 minutes, this guy just gets up on stage and silently melts guitar lick after guitar lick. It's incredible to witness live, there's nothing like it. No nigger-loving lyrics, no twerking, no jewish trickery or ooga booga hype man jumping around like a retard.

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=n4bply6Ibqw

For those that don't know, Buckethead shows usually (but not always) have several trademark "moments" -- that is, he'll put on giant foam fingers and dance like a robot, he'll do a bunch of sweet nunchuck moves... and he gives away toys:

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=PQ0AAMpr5kI

So fans that are familiar with Buckethead sometimes bring unique toys of their own to give to Buckethead. Sometimes he does a song that has a part where the audience gets to play his kill switch. The way he interacts with his fans is impossible for most other artists of his caliber.

One time, he even brought a fan onstage and let him play an entire song: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=7ysQ9bN1BLU

The song, "Soothsayer," is of particular significance here because Buckethead wrote it in remembrance of a beloved aunt.

I dunno what the point of this post was, I guess I'm just reminiscing on one of the times I really truly enjoyed something.

He's a pretty good guitarist, whoever he is. I'm more of a satriani fan myself, Steve vai might be the God damn devil. Buckethead kinda tows the line in between

His name is Brian Carrol.

I hear a lot of Satriani in his style and sound, so I can see that, but while Brian/Buckethead can fretboard tap with the best of them, he added an actual "arcade" button as a mute/suppressor to make a unique sound.

This song/album he wrote in memory of his mother: https://youtu.be/E5PXYehriYY

I don't think I can listen to that right now. I will check it out though

Yeah, that one is pretty long. if you get 5 minutes or so, Redeem team is one of my favorites of his. Great lawn-mowing music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN8iXk_ZyjA

Steve Vai with Mike Mangini on drums is badass. I watch that fire garden suite live performance all the time.

I haven't seen that, but I'll definitely look into it. I love me some technical guitar. For the record, I just call Steve Vai the devil because of his role in the crosseoads.

Haha, oh yea...I forgot about that movie. Never actually watched the whole thing, but I remember that guitar battle scene.

I'm a big Les Claypool fan so I found out about Buckethead when he did some collaborations with him. Dig his style a lot.

[ - ] Flabbygasted 2 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 08:57:28 ago (+2/-0)

Claypool is amazing...Primus is underrated

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 2 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 15:38:34 ago (+2/-0)

I saw Primus about 5 years ago. It was the night before Halloween and they fucking brought it, full send. Great band, great crowd. One of my favorite shows.

Were they doing the Charlie and the chocolate factory bit? Saw them roughly same time period and that’s what they were doing.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 2 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 16:32:01 ago (+2/-0)*

No they were dressed up like from the video for Wynonna's big brown beaver

Actually maybe I misremembered. It was this set exactly. I was in this crowd.

Right on. Saw em in San Marcos or Austin June of that year. Great show.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 1 point 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 17:25:30 ago (+1/-0)

It was a great show as I remember it. I was on three hits of acid and an unknown amount of alcohol and edibles, so you'll excuse me if my memory is hazy.

[ - ] Flabbygasted 0 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 18:01:52 ago (+0/-0)

That would be awesome. I'd definitely like to see them live is I get the chance.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 0 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 18:12:52 ago (+0/-0)

It was pretty badass. They played a music festival called hulaween. At that same venue I saw Greg Allman, John Prine, and Willie Nelson. Awesome spot if you ever get the chance to go, it's The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in north Florida

Oh, I'm sure they're a bunch of liberal retards. I was checking there upcoming tour dates and it's mostly Washington state and Oregon, with some Austin like places mixed in.

[ - ] cyclops1771 2 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 07:36:01 ago (+2/-0)*

I really got into him about 4-5 years ago.

I still have a few recorded shows of his that I will throw on just to watch, but and still have 30-40 of his songs on my music device.

Siege Engine, Redeem Team, Soothsayer, Hold me forever.

Dude is an amazing talent.

[ - ] 86USSLiberty 1 point 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 16:25:21 ago (+1/-0)

I’ve always liked him. I’m more into the acoustic side of things but respect the hell out of guys like him, vai, satriani etc.

[ - ] ItsBacon 1 point 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 12:47:16 ago (+1/-0)*

The guy can put out a new album every week. He's amazing. Some of the best music to listen to while working, very few lyrics. Still, Last train to Bucketheadland and Onions Unleashed are two of my favorites. I still don't think I've listened to everything he's recorded. There's just so much.

[ - ] UrCoolerOlderBrother 1 point 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 10:49:05 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah he's pretty bad ass. I like him and I definitely recognize the talent, but not really my type of music. I would definitely enjoy seeing him live though.

At the show I went to, during the toy giveaway segment, there was this guy in the front row with one of those inflatable plastic toy hammers, yelling and screaming.

When Bucket got to his area, he started frantically smacking the area of the stage in front of Bucket's feet with the hammer, freaking out like "YEAHHHHH GIMME TOY"

Buckethead looked at his sack, looked at the dude, and was like "yeah, no," and skipped him.

[ - ] UrCoolerOlderBrother 0 points 2.8 yearsJun 23, 2021 16:55:07 ago (+0/-0)

He looked at his sack?! What kind of show was this??..... lol. That is funny though. I had no idea that there was a "toy giveaway segment" of the show. Lol. Sounds like a hell of a show.

Josh Freeze told a few stories on the I'd Hit That podcast about Buckethead. He apparently is a huge Disneyland fan and recorded his own versions of the theme songs you hear on the different rides. So he goes on the Haunted Mansion ride and listens to his own guitar shredding version of Haunted Mansion.

Mac Sabbath is pretty good too

I saw him live a decade ago. Best show I've ever seen.

Followed his work since 2004. I think Brian is the greatest guitarist ever born, period. You might not like his style but literally nobody has matched his simultaneous creative and technical output.

I also highly respect his openness with his work, he releases and shares almost everything, solo tracks, demo tapes, experimental shit that other artists try hiding because they are pretentious fags who think they are too complex for people to understand. Despite the fact that no one on earth other than maybe 2 or 3 people can match his speed in a guitar battle, he has absolutely zero ego about his ability.

When he dies someday it will be sad because we probably won't have another Buckethead for 500 years.

I believe Buckethead and former Cannibal Corpse lead guitarist Pat O'Brien are the two best players on planet Earth at this time.

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/ex-cannibal-corpse-guitarist-pat-obrien-sentenced-in-connection-with-2018-assault-burglary/
Former Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O’Brien has been sentenced for his role in a bizarre incident that saw him being arrested for assault and burglary while his own house caught fire, a subsequent search of his home revealed more than 80 firearms, a couple flamethrowers, and three skulls.

Both of them are into Hell Rock and massive bloodshed ..

I have his balloon cement album but I never listen to it. His music is highly technical but lacking in heart. I'd rather listen to punk or j-rock

What's a buckethead?

[ - ] Antiliberalsociety 0 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 08:59:22 ago (+0/-0)

I like Buckethead's style. I'm huge on instrumental talent, the rest is just theater.

"Hendrix" r'soles .. there were plenty of players could wipe the floor with him, hear his 12 String Blues for a comedy of errors, no less than the exhibition he made of himself at Woodstock with a woefully out of tune guitar.

he's got guitar skill. he's also a filthy jew. hard pass / get the flamethrower.

[ - ] bosunmoon 2 points 2.8 yearsJun 20, 2021 15:35:04 ago (+2/-0)

I'm pretty sure he's not a jew.

[ - ] Hey_guys_whats_up 1 point 2.8 yearsJun 21, 2021 00:25:43 ago (+1/-0)

"Brian Patrick Carroll", doesn't seem very jewy. His music has no lyrics so it's hard to call it degenerate.

Me neither.
