No apologies necessary. Real life always wins out over message board nonsense. I'm embarrassed that you replied to explain your circumstances. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad day, but we're all entitled to a pass.

Regarding this generation of French being cowards, I'm inclined to agree. "They are brain washed to be passive and compliant. Weak and demoralized, not unlike the US." Absolutely. Socialism tends to do this to a society, and this generation of French are more socialist, atheistic, and brainwashed than ever.

I'm hopeful that a minority of French are now standing up to their socialist government, declaring that they won't have any more of that. Europeans, even as undereducated as they are, have a much better understanding of their own history than Americans do of theirs. They know they were the vanguard who repelled the Islamic force back across the Pyrenees and literally saved Europe from a European Islamic empire. They're now watching the invaders burn a church about every two weeks. (I read this in a post here; I'd been aware of this trend for a couple of years.)

Europe is a large area, but the countries are relatively small and the combination of their contiguity and the lack or borders (a condition of joining the EU) make them socially closer than they ever were, so they're well aware of what everyone else is doing. I hope, with BREXIT now a reality, that the Netherlands and Italy will be next. They know how the contagion is spreading. France was close, but their socialist EU government is too much in control. They had a chance with Le Pen, but she's been sidelined.

Nonetheless, the French are MUCH more politically active than Americans are, and they're not afraid to speak their minds. The exception is with the military, who have the very real threat of having their pensions taken away or being court martialed and being discharged dishonorably.
