Old voat was written to make money, and I'm sure the attitude was get all the users and fix the infrastructure later. The users never came so it was mostly a moot point. As far as I know.

They had plenty of users at their height. They also had plenty of expense to justify fixing their infrastructure. They didn't seem that motivated to make money, at least off of advertising because what they set up for that was kind of a joke. If they were smart they would have set up a bidding market so that the price was reasonable. $50 was the minimum and wasn't even close to worth it for what you got, so they got zero interest. They had a total of three real ads. If they had really cared about money they would have fixed that shit.

Unless.. per my hypothesis, they weren't the kind of people capable of fixing much of anything.

Speaking of nigger-rigged. I'd like to know if @system or @puttinass or whoever the mysterious benefactor is, based the code off the original or if it was a rewrite. I ask because I was planning to do the same thing myself (I failed to find even 1 goat to help me in the effort, got as far as stealing the css and menu systems; Had a single no-sql class to represent a user; broken menu system; but otherwise working pre-beta-beta site)

BTW, oldVoat was opensource, but I never found where the source was hosted. Some of the guys, like PeaceSeeker, would know.
