Look at my mouse trap.

submitted by MaryXmas to whatever 2 daysFeb 3, 2026 20:35:53 ago (+19/-0)     (whatever)

I have a bunch of chickens and finally set up one of those walk the plank mouse traps under their food.

I dumped the bucket in the barn. The birds are really happy.

Chop them up and let the chickens eat them.
Free protein.

I prefer to have a couple outdoor cats. It's a lot less clean up.
I was at a buddy's house just last night when his cat brought him a fat dead rat. It likes to give him the best kills. Luckily mine don't do that shit

Well, would you rather have those little jews running around everywhere on your property?

[ - ] HelenHighwater 0 points 2 daysFeb 3, 2026 22:02:34 ago (+0/-0)

no

Good to see.

I set one of these up by my rental where I witnessed a rodent hopping around. One of my batshit crazy 70 year old tenants came out yelling at me that evening because she imagined a squirrel might fall in.

Net mouse death: 0

Very good.

I do the same in my barn, except I use a scoop of grain in the bottom of a trash can. When I get enough of them I put the lid on and drive them out to our local homeless encampment and let them run free late at night. There's nothing like watching 50 rats scurry off to methville in the moonlight.

Why not feed em to the birds? Or plants ? Sounds like a lot of work.

[ - ] BigFatJewCuck 0 points 1 dayFeb 5, 2026 02:30:03 ago (+0/-0)

We have a local homeless encampment that's squatting on private land and because it's sitting on a jurisdictional borderline, law enforcement just leaves them alone. They've basically built up a plywood fortress at this point and if your car or garage gets broken into, chances are you'd find your shit there. It's worth the effort to fuck with them partly out of revenge for thefts and partly as a community service.

One time I put a full mouse in a bucket with a hungry mouse. The hungry mouse ate the full mouse.

I've used the single mouse one and it works well

Not sure if the big one is worth the extra money

Two comments: first, I see that spunky red chicken. Man, are they characters!
Second: that bucket stinks!

You "Steve Ross"'ed 'em.

Also, how could you kill so many in such a heartless way? No, I'm asking because I'm taking notes ... for science ...

[ - ] MaryXmas [op] 3 points 2 daysFeb 4, 2026 01:25:08 ago (+3/-0)

If I hid the food, they would come into the house. Drowning is not great but what other choices do I have? Capture but don't drown? Freeze them? I certainly considered hooking up an electric fence to a choke point but I think this is certainly the most effective. I tried this trap before but it didn't catch any. It has to be right under the food. I bet there is a mouse drowning in the barn as I type this. They made the choice, I just made my free food less available.

Ps, if you see any donuts or hundred dollar bills swinging freely above a high dive, maybe let someone else go first.

Good that you don't bait as other animals such as owls would eat the dead mice and die. Alas I bait but hide the dead critters under logs etc but not ideal.

I've had two sometimes three of those set up in outbuildings for 40 years.
