3 cups cut rhubarb
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
3 tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 plain pastry
2 tablespoons butter
Combine rhubarb, sugar, orange peel, flour, and salt fill 9 inch pastry lined pie pan ; dot with butter and adjust top crust. Bake in hot oven (450) 10 minutes, then in moderate oven (350) for about 30 minutes.

This seems like a simple recipe. We always liked making it with a 50/50 strawberry/rhubarb mix.

Yes.

Put it in the ribbish bin amd wait until the garbage man takes it away.

I call it "Rhubarb gets what it deserves"

Clean it up. Put it in the fridge for at least an hour. Get some steaks going while you wait. Take it out, but you need to be quick here: Salt to taste then throw that shit in the trash where it belongs and enjoy a couple steaks. Or bake a rhubarb pie or something, your choice.

You're welcome.

strawberry rhubarb wine. But make sure to use champagne yeast. regular yeast leaves a flavor behind.

Strawberry rhubarb pie, make sure you add tapioca to the recipe.

Nutrition

Raw rhubarb is 94% water, 5% carbohydrates, 1% protein, and contains negligible fat (table). In a 100-gram (3+1⁄2-ounce) reference amount, raw rhubarb supplies 88 kilojoules (21 kilocalories) of food energy, and is a rich source of vitamin K (28% of the Daily Value, DV), a moderate source of vitamin C (10% DV), and contains no other micronutrients in significant amounts (table).

Other than using it for Vitamin K, the rhubarb might not be worth the time-effort-garden space used to cultivate it.

Unless you really love the tart-earthy taste of it, then perhaps you might consider something with more nutritional value?

Obviously you could make a dessert recipe. You can just roast it in the oven with some sugar and then eat it with a little whipped cream or ice cream.

But you could make a savory dish like chutney to pair with meat.

Nice job.

I've had a rhubarb once and had no idea what to do with it. Thank you next time I'm ready.

Its about the only thing you can do with the shit.

[ - ] Peleg 5 points 10 hoursMay 13, 2025 10:46:53 ago (+5/-0)

Mom made the best rhubarb pie ever. My little sis has all of mom's recipes. I just texted her and asked for some of those recipes. When she gets back with me I'll share them with you.

[ - ] AugustineOfHippo2 [op] 0 points 8 hoursMay 13, 2025 12:34:39 ago (+0/-0)

Nice, thank you!

[ - ] Peleg 0 points 1 hourMay 13, 2025 19:35:19 ago (+0/-0)

I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to get back with you. Mom passed away back in 2019 so I asked my kid sister for her recipe. She said she didn't have it. I have mom's Better Homes and Gardens cookbook from 1949. That's where mom got her recipe. I also have a Duncan Hines cookbook from 1952 that has one rhubarb pie recipe. Would you like any of those?

[ - ] AugustineOfHippo2 [op] 0 points 1 hourMay 13, 2025 20:12:04 ago (+0/-0)

no worries dude, I really appreciate your effort. I think I can find recipes online, just wanted to hear any unusual or unique recipes that other goaters may have.
Thanks for the reply, and for thinking of me way more than I deserve!

Rhubarb pie. But I just sprinkle salt on it and eat it
