There was only one authorized Rolex dealer in all of Queens and it happened to be 2 blocks from where I live and last week, Rolex revoked their charter or whatever they call it. They cannot get new stock Rolexes anymore and they had to take all of their Rolex signage out of the store.
What to do?
You absolutely cannot get Rolexes from authorized dealers in Manhattan because they are backlogged with requests for years and mostly deal with just celebrities and the very wealthy. There is one AD in Staten Island, but I hate Staten Island and I don’t think they’d have anything for me, either. No ADs in the Bronx, but I hate the Bronx, anyway. That leaves the one AD in Brooklyn and 5 or so out on LI. I’m broke this year, anyway, but I wanted to get on the list for another Rolie.
This is my hobby. I don’t criticize you guys when you beam with pride building your gardens and free range chicken farm cousin fuck sanctuary and underground death cult hoarder silos.
The point is, this is not a prepper thread. I’m discussing a hobby. When one of you spends money on vacation with your beastly wife, I don’t jump in the thread like: VACATIONS TO SANDALS HAVE ZERO ROI! HEDGE YOURSELF WITH GOLD AND GERBIL FUTURES. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DECOMMISSIONED NUCLEAR MISSILE SILO AS EMERGENCY FALLOUT SHELTER AND A FULLY FUNCTIONAL LIVESTOCK FARM THAT YOU CAN HARVEST ALPACA COTTON FROM YOU’RE A FOOL. I SLEEP WITH $22K OF DETACHABLE GOLD AND SILVER SHEETS UNDER MY BED FOR BARTER AND MAKE ANUS HAIR KEY LANYARDS BECAUSE IM MORE RESOURCEFUL THAN YOU, YOU NEW YORK IDIOT!!

You not buying watches based on their gold content….seriously, the spinning wheels are just extra. The labor of man is sometimes not worth as much as the materials. Of all the places to live and you not realizing what gold is worth or where you can purchase it for cash.
I had gold before. When the world ends, your gold will be nearly worthless. No one cares. Let me enjoy my life. This is not an investment. This is my recreation.

I didn’t mean to come across like an asshole. I am an asshole, but I didn’t mean to come across that way. I’m a clock guy. I understand the hobbie. I never liked watches because I don’t like to use monoculars. I like mantel clocks. Not too big, not too small but I fully realize how absolutely fucking worthless they are unless they can only keep time as well as my $12 watch from Walmart.
The thing about gold is it does not keep time. It is timeless.
Also there is a tradition in my family of purchasing gold and giving it to your wife to hoard to support herself should she ever become a widow. So, nostalgia. By gold. It’s cool.
Also there is a tradition in my family of purchasing gold and giving it to your wife to hoard to support herself should she ever become a widow.
An ancient tradition is to announce your intentions with a women with a copper bracelet, secure your intent to marry with a silver bracelet, and seal the deal with gold.
And as the years go on and the man becomes more wealthy from hard work, the bracelets get thicker and heavier. This allows the women to hen-peck each other easier, as they can see who had bagged the more worthwhile husband.
Dear lord potato, you nailed it. For my wedding, I made 2 silver bands, one for each of us. It's what I could afford, probably less than probably $10 in materials and I buffed them both to a high shine.
As the years go by, I can now buy whatever I want, and so I do. I don't know what to get her for Christmas, and she appreciates jewelry, so I buy underpriced stuff at estate auctions and she is crazy happy with my gifts. But it's a lazy mans way to buy a gift as well. Shrugs. It's easy for me and I am appreciative for that.
I used to work with a guy that got sent to Taiwan for a week. He came back showing off his Rolex he got for $35. Two weeks later his wrist was turning green.
In the US, a fashion item is subject only to possible copyright or trademark infringement and not patent infringement, (speaking of a watch having the Rolex logo that is not actually a Rolex). You can purchase that item for private use and you will not be breaking any laws or incurring any civil liability to the trademark or copyright owner.
The top tier replicas ($2500?) are very good and most people cannot tell, so if you’re in it only for flexing to girls at bars and shit, then that may be the way to go. Don’t get it wet or think you will pass it down or get any resale for it, though.

There are "superclone" watches that very much look the part, but they are still garbage. A superclone will run you over a thousand dollars, and for that money there are plenty of quality, non-fake watches out there.
Secondary market prices are pretty reasonable, even for a Daytona right now. Except for the 2023 platinum, which has the exhibition case back. Fags are trying to flog that one at $150k right now.
Depends on what you want, though. I got offered a rose gold Yacht Master a couple weeks ago, but I passed because there's no money in flipping it right now.
EDIT: I’ll never buy secondary market. I want my box and papers and the warch brand new and stickered up. I want it registered in Switzerland with my name attached to it so I can get the warranty and get ir serviced and polished at Rolex Service Center. I don’t want to get my shit serviced by some creepy Jew in like 47th Street and have my movement clandestinely cannibalized and a shit polish job to boot.
WTF is the deal with NYers and rolexes? Wristwatches are going out of style anyways, like the pocketwatch. I rarely ever see anyone under 50 wearing them unless they're dressed up.

I read a lot about black market and secondary market transactions and I cannot figure out the economic viability of the current wristwatch market. Nostalgia and vanity are only worth so much.
[ - ] BushChuck 1 point 11 monthsMay 10, 2023 22:22:36 ago (+1/-0)
Watches are not an investment.
But certain watches will hold their value over time, and a rare few will appreciate.
The current secondary market is overinflated, but if you can get new/unworn for close to retail, and skip the wait, it's worthwhile to a lot of collectors.
Black market on a high end watch is just plain retarded. If you are wearing a stolen Rolex/Patek/Audemar Piguet there's a chance of being pulled up at customs, and you can't get it factory serviced.
Not to mention you would be supporting the sort of people who will chop off a man's hand to get his watch.
