From what I recall, Hitler did his all at once, but it was symptomatic of international treaties against buying german goods and demanding germans pay for WW1. Since the old currency was beyond fuckered, he instituted a new currency that was supposed to be based off the productivity of Germans (one mark was equal to one our worked) which managed to spur their citizens into a meth addled machine shop.

Of course, this currency was not recognized internationally as legitimate, but it did work within the german border to produce resources that could be traded to desperate neighbors like France and Poland (both of whom used to raid Germany post WW1 to steal goods when Germany couldnt cut them a check large enough)

This also factored in to the Jews that moved to Israel unaccosted from germany, where Germans even protected the colony so long as they bought all their goods through Germany, which further expanded their trade power, as goods that couldn't be produced within Germany were traded for using German goods.
