on old voat, no matter the topic, there was someone in the comments with more background-knowledge than all media combined. thats what was great about old voat. the comment sections were FULL of knowledge!

My hope is that most of us comment lurkers decided to integrate ourselves more into the real world and thus aren't here much anymore.

For some reason it's not feeling like this is a 1 for 1 successor to old Voat. There's just something...different. I can feel a disturbance in the force still, but I haven't determined if it's more or less positive or negative yet.

Remember the Gilded Age? Or at least the postmodern recontextualization of the Gilded Age, in which it’s claimed that man believed he was finally triumphing over nature, and then it was all shattered or somesuch by the sinking of the Titanic because one newspaper (not the architects or owners) said it was “unsinkable”?

Voat was like that. It had the veneer of “ha ha we’re actually turning the tide” when in reality things just got worse in perpetuity and we pretended otherwise because we had freeze peach.

Now there’s no veneer. Just a half dozen fragmented and dead bunker sites where the blinding truth that no one will ever do anything can’t be ignored anymore. Even imageboards themselves have been totally destroyed. There’s not even a successor to 8chan that hasn’t been purposely turned into a leftist safe space.

Before the Qtards? It was glorious most days. There were lulls in the summer months and the content was read through fairly quickly but what was there was amounted to fantastic.

Some sucked Putt's dick but generally he kept out the way, sometimes too much. There was a blackout one weekend where something got overloaded and Atko had to come back.

To Putt's credit, I wasn't crazy about the idea when he took over but in the beginning he did alright and Voat blossomed under his guidance. Whether it had to do with him or not no one can really say. I wasn't part of whoaverse but I exited reddit when I got tired of that shit. Not a part of any of the invasions, just heard about it and migrated to like minded people.

There was a Cat Crowd at Voat. Those were my people. Even though the head cat lover was homo we still treated him as one of our own.

There was some infighting but god fucking help you if you were from the outside and fucked with anyone.
