I don't think they care if I believe it or not, they're just warming up for a day where expressing dissent will bring economic ruin and everyone who can see through the BS feels alone and atomised.

Part of what makes this trick so good is that they don't need to convince everyone. They need a select, incredibly loud few that they can point to whenever asked. And it doesn't even need to even look like the majority.

Oh it will look like a majority whenever they get that powerful. There'll be loud public demonstrations of support for the party line. Failure to participate will be dangerous. In fact, participation and support will be the bare minimum expected. Anyone playing it safe will have to organise their own expressions of support.
