markdown is a drop in set of code he can lift from almost anywhere, its only alteration needed after is prefs for whether links are mandatory format or loose.
A second change to 'markdown' output will be to make v/News and r/RedditCrap become links
A third change to 'markdown' output will be to make @Username and u/Username become links to account pages
