Can't speak for the others, but Irish independence was largely set back by terorism.

The Home Rule movement had been gaining power in the UK parliament and had even gotten a bill into committee which would have restored an Irish parliament. Unfortunately it was shelved during WW1 along with a vast array of other bills as restructuring the country in the middle of a major war was impractical.

A large number of Irish called "Redmond's Volunteers" volunteered to fight on the Entente side of the war in order to demonstrate loyalty and hopefully earn independence after the war. The 1916 rising scuppered that effort and created an adversarial political climate in Ireland (and the UK) which made home rule difficult to justify.

The result was a bloody guerilla war with war crimes being committed on both sides. Even at the end of the war Ireland wasn't granted independence, it was split in two and granted some degree of internal decisionmaking. There was then an equally bloody civil war which split the south politically for decades. Neither war was necessary or useful. Actual independence for the south wouldn't occur until WW2.
