If that cat ever does get lost (roam too far from home), no one will feed it and protect it in the winter.

Most lost cats I know that additionally finally return take 3 months to a year to stumble back to home, and they are all scrawny and feral looking.

Dogs are far better at knowing how to sniff their way home.
