An orphaned bear cub before rescue. He had spooked by some dogs and climbed the tree to escape them. The cub was rescued 5 days after this picture was taken. He was released the next year to prowl the high country of Western Colorado

I fist saw this bear running down a dirt road in western Colorado. He was being chased by two dogs from a neighboring ranch. He left the road ran through an irrigation ditch and climbed a tree about 30 feet from the porch of the ranch house. After running off the neighbors dogs, I took about a dozen pictures and left him alone. He was gone the next morning. I spoke with a WCO (Wildlife Conservation Officer) later in the week and was told he was trapped and taken to a bear rescue facility. The following year, I spoke again with the WCO and he informed me of the cubs release.

It is not uncommon for sows to abandon their cubs during drought years as they cannot provide for themselves and their cubs.

As to my profession, I'm just a semi-retired guy with a camera that is in the right place at the right time.....
