World population currently around 7.865 billion (7,865,000,000 give or take, whatever)

a certain masonic installation in Georgia says - 'Keep the world population under 500,000,000 in balance with nature'

what percentage of 7.865 billion is 500 million.

the other side of that is, what is 30% of 7.865 billion - Because we keep getting smashed around with 'hurrrr 70% vaxinayshuns for dah herds immunity and good boy points' so im wondering how close to that world population limit goal all these euthanizations will get us.

To find the percentage, simply divide 500,000,000 by 7,865,000,000, and then multiply by 100. So...

500,000,000 / 7,865,000,000 = 0.06357

0.06357 x 100 = 6.357%

Yes, but even minor differences in order of operations can help math retards sometimes, because their brains are basically illiterate with numbers in the first place. A 100% is easy for them to conceptualize, divided by the total amount they're working with (7.86B here), multiplied by the target number (500M), to give them whatever % they're looking for. If they wanted to work backwards to get the amount instead of a percent, just flip them. (7.86B/100)x6.35= ~500M

For these people 7.86B/500M can already cause an 'error does not compute' in their brains because they don't understand why they need to do that or what that's accomplishing. If they dont' understand each step, they wont retain the information, that's why I offered an alternative.

Source: I work with a shocking number of people who can't do any math, even though our entire industry exists because of geometry and statistics and teaching people simple things has become a regular event.

I find getting the math wrong can be an excellent debate strategy. You present incorrect math,they'll do the math themselves to "prove you wrong",but by doing so,they now have a number they agree is correct. Helps with those idiots who demand you "prove your numbers".

Yes. I always think of percentages as fractions:

500m out of 7.865b is the same as X out of 100.

Solve for X by cross-multiplying (what you described).

30% of 7.865B is 2,359,500,000, so a good chunk of the way there but not quite there yet.
