Riot Games is recording Vallorant voice chats.

In an interesting change of pace from companies who jettison wrong thinkers who don't violate any stated company policy, Riot's new privacy policy will include their intent to record any voice chat using their internal systems.

"Privacy Notice: The update to our privacy notice allows us to record and potentially evaluate voice data when using Riot-owned voice comms channels. When a player submits a report for disruptive or offensive behavior in voice comms, the relevant audio data will be stored in your account’s registered region and evaluated to see if our behavior agreement was violated. If a violation is detected, we’ll take action. After the data has been made available to the player in violation (and is no longer needed for reviews) the data will be deleted, similar to how we currently handle text-based chat reports. If no violation is detected, or if no report is filed in a timely manner, the data will be deleted."

Their claims are a tad bit shaky if you follow the logic. The data will be deleted if no violation is detected, but what about if no claims are made? How long do they hold onto this information? Do they just cut a slice out for a complaint and delete the complaint will holding onto all this chat data?

From later in their statement:

"Will you actively be listening to me?

No. We won’t actively monitor your live game comms. We’ll only potentially listen to and review voice logs when disruptive voice behavior is reported.

What if I don’t want my voice chat to be potentially recorded?

If you prefer to not have your voice chat captured, you may turn off voice chat.

Participating in voice on our platform means your voice logs are subject to recording and potential processing."

So they're recording everything. And if you don't like it, just use an outside chat system that is also potentially recording everything you say.

Which makes this part...

"What about data privacy?

We believe we should collect the absolute minimum data to effectively run our games and continuously improve your experience. When we collect data, we’ll be transparent, we’ll keep it for only as long as is necessary, and we’ll protect it as if it were our own.

We know collecting voice data is a concern for many of you, but be assured that we would never ship anything if we weren’t comfortable having our own data treated the same way. And if you prefer to not have your voice chat captured, you may turn off voice chat."

...seem like absolute bullshit.

MEANWHILE, they sold a majority share of their company to Chinese publisher TENCET who has more Chinese rip offs of LoL than you can count!

To be more accurate, Tencent has full ownership since EOY 2015 or thereabouts. They had a very large majority investment for years preceding that but you're right, their subsidiaries ripped off Riot IP.

Of course, Riot ripped off DOTA 1 community and has an extremely checkered past of exploitation across their company (latest, recent debacle: "Chronoshift" Discord communication from fictitious employee "Riot Zed" -- a pseudo name but with corporate authority, preventing accountability), so zero sympathy for the brand nor its executives and some of the work force.
