"White Population in Decline" ... So I Did Some Research (whatever)

White Population
Overall, 235.4 million people reported White alone or in combination with another group.
The White alone population accounted for 204.3 million people and 61.6% of all people living in the United States, compared with 223.6 million and 72.4% in 2010.
Together with the 31.1 million people who identified as White in combination with another race group, such as Black or African American or Asian, the White alone or in combination population comprised 235.4 million people and 71% of the total population.
Although the White alone population decreased by 8.6% since 2010, the White in combination population saw a 316% increase during the same period.
The observed changes in the White population could be attributed to a number of factors, including demographic change since 2010. But we expect they were largely due to the improvements to the design of the two separate questions for race and ethnicity, data processing and coding, which enabled a more thorough and accurate depiction of how people prefer to self-identify.

Note that, Overall the White and Combo (White and another group population) INCREASED, not decreased, from 231 mil to 235.4 mil. A gain of 4.4 mil. However, this year they count white and combos differently due to "improvements". Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like to me segregating out whiteys from coal burner's spawns. coalets? coalings? coal chunks? Anyway, now they count 204.3 mil as white. The previous census data that had 223.6 mil white was counted differently, so you have potentially mixed being counted as white at that time (idk, a guess). You know how the government is when it comes to "whites" and whites, just look at fbi.gov.
Now, If I use the 223.6 mil figure and 316% (31.1mil) from the 2020 page and calculate back in time for 2010 Combos, we get:

Whites 223.6
Combos 9.8
Total 233.4
HOWEVER:

page 3, table 1: Shows LESS on the Combos, 7.5 mil instead. If you multiply 7.5 by 3.16(316% increase) you get 23.7 mil, not 31.1 mil. So I'm confused on how they calculated a 316% increase and ended up with 31.1 mil. If someone knows, I'd like to know too.
Hazarding a guess, looking at the percentage growth from 2000 to 2010 for blacks and the same for 2010 to 2020 is that they took some of them and dumped them in the white Combo area via the "improvements". As blacks went from 133% gain 2000/2010 to 88% gain 2010/2020. 45% drop, yeah right. And they are saying White only dropped not only to -8.6% but also the 5.7% gain was lost as well? 14.3% drop in 10 years?
ANYWAY... End result is you CAN NOT compare the 2010 and 2020 White and/or White/Combo results as the comparison will be skewed as a result of the "improvements".
